"Halfway Full"

Hmmm.... interesting. Not something I would normally paint, but what’s wrong with some variation in subjects? Anyway, the first thing that I see is the reflective running water flowing into the rusty bucket, then I see the feet in the background standing in water that has come from the facet.  The welcoming combinations of warm and cold colors bring balance to this painting and give the feeling of a warm sunny day. My favorite part are the random colors that show up throughout the elements of this painting, for example the purple skin tones or rusty brown reflected into the shadows of the water. Besides the technical, I love the mystery; who is it and what are they doing with the water? Is it some kids filling up a bucket for a water fight, a family getting water for their home in Africa, or something entirely different?

I selected the reference because the topic and mystery intrigued me... This is the project I started after painting the ginormous Harley, so was ready for something simple, but meaningful (and a lot smaller!). I love painting water, especially when it has the potential to tell many stories like I believe this one does. The hardest part was naming this painting; I had no clue what to call it. So I decided on a name that wouldn’t constrain (and maybe add meaning to) whatever story you decided to make up about the scene. The bucket is half full as opposed to half empty.
