"Magic Mile"

When I look at this piece, I smile. I love snow, I love sunsets, and I love snowboarding. This takes me back to that day and that mountain. This painting has a mix of calm pastel colors that I would expect to be the opposite of the snowboarding, which is thrilling, exciting, and usually filled with loud music, but this picture captures more; it captures the relaxing element, the part of snowboarding that people don't usually think of. Snowboarding is an escape from everyday life. With the flow of the snow and the muted sunset, it gives the feeling of being inside your head and makes it seem like another world. Anyway, what does this picture make you feel? Does it remind you of times on the mountain? As for me, yes.

This painting was created because... one day while I was snowboarding down Magic Mile at Timberline lodge, a photographer captured a photo of me and I later found a brochure sitting on our car that gave me the website to look at it. So a bought his photo and used it as the main reference but I changed the composition, colors, and the mood of the picture quite a bit, really just keeping the main shapes. This is a personal painting as it reminds me of that day, that day when I was just a beginning snowboarder and I went over this bump trying to dodge the photographer and almost fell, then being so proud of myself that I went over the "jump" without falling and that hopefully the photographer captured it. that was a great day, we even stopped at DQ on the ride home (to celebrate being photographed).  So yeah, I created it to remember this day and that time of my life. This was also fun to paint, like doing a self portrait but not a portrait.
